Big Sean – Outro

February 22nd, 2015

DOWNLOAD MP3 BigSean-Outro.mp3
Summary: Soul Samples. Always.
About Artist: Big Sean is young rapper from Detroit that signed with Kanye West a couple years ago. He’s part of a wave of rapper’s that I feel especially connected to that include J. Cole, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, B.o.B. and Wale. It was the songs from these artists that started this blog (they are all also right around my age).
About Song: This song is the outro to Big Sean’s third album “Dark Sky Paradise” that’s set to come out February 24th. The album is pretty solid, with “I Don’t Fuck with You” being the lead single. A couple of the bonus tracks are pretty good too. I’d say it’s the best Big Sean album so far (though complete albums hasn’t been his strength). And doesn’t “Dark Side Paradise” sound an awful lot like “Dark Twisted Fantasy”
Favorite Part: This song is different than all the other tracks on the album in that it features a soul sample, which I always love. This song samples Darondo’s “Didn’t I” (1973).

About Artist: Zion I is an Oakland based duo that’s been making revolutionary music since the mid 1990s.
About Song: This song is from their Feb 2015 Sun Moon and Stars EP. This project marks the end of Zion I as they have decided to disband after releasing this EP a few weeks ago.
Favorite Part: This is the intro song to the EP and it sets the tone for the rest of the project. I really like the lyrics and I just wanted to post this song in honor of Zion I’s amazing career.

Talib Kweli & Z-Trip – Attack the Block

October 8th, 2012

DOWNLOAD MP3 TalibKweliZTrip-AttacktheBlock.mp3
Summary: This track is the intro track to an awesome mixtape byt the same name. Download Attack the Block Mixtape. While I like this song I’m putting up this post to represent the whole mixtape which I highly recommend.
About Artist:  Talib Kweli is an established very well respected artist in the game who is a member of Madlib and one half of Black Star with Mos Def. Z-Trip is a DJ who really blazed the trail of many mashup artists behind him. While not well known outside of the Hip Hop community he is respected as a DJ on the very top of his game.
About Song: This song is the intro off of the a mixtape by the same name and while I like this song you should download the mixtape. The beginning of the song plays a clip of british movie call Attack the Block about an alien invasion (awesome indie movie that I was lucky to see at my local independent movie theater). The song samples Dead Prez’s Hip Hop.
Favorite Part:   I love the quote from the movie at the very begining and of course Dead Prez’s Hip Hop is a great beat but to really appreciate this track you gotta just download the mixtape cause the songs are mixed together with great skill (Z-Trip’s skill I presume).

Other favorite track on this mixtape are Letter From The Government, Congregation, and Getting To The Money among others.

Soulja Boy – Swag Me Out

April 1st, 2011

No Mp3, See Video Below
Summary: Lyrical, Catchy… just plain amazing!
About Artist: Soulja Boy took the Hip Hop world by storm with lyrical ability and unmatched swag. Now one of the most respected artists in the genre he challenges the thrones of Tupac, Biggie and Jay-Z with his fierce style. Soulja Boy may be the greatest rapper of all time and with so many years ahead of him sky is the limit for this talented young artist
About Song: This song showcases Soulja Boy’s lyrical abilities while at the same time speaking to the core values of Hip Hop. A trifecta of lyricism, a masterpiece beat, and original style this song will surely be remember as a masterpiece of our time.
Favorite Part:
At 2:29, Soulja’s Gucci verse is truly mindblowing. Listen to those lyrics.
Also 3:35-3:57 showcases Soulja Boy at his finest.

Lloyd – Lay It Down (Remix)(ft. B.o.B, Rock City)

February 22nd, 2011

DOWNLOAD MP3 Lloyd-LayItDownRemixftBoBRockCity.mp3
Summary: Pop Hop
About Artist: Lloyd is a Pop R&B singer. I generally hate the kind of music Llyod makes and I gotta say this song walks a fine line really close to the kind of song that drives me crazy (in a bad way). Rock City is some Caribean R&B duo, don’t know much about them. And then there’s B.o.B. who is the sole reason this song made it up here. If you don’t know, I love B.o.B and you can click HERE for more B.o.B. songs on
About Song: This song is a super successful single off of Lloyds next album which comes out in April, and just for the record I could care less about this album. There is also another remix of this song which features Young Jeezy and R Kelly which you can listen to HERE. This song is super repetitive which I don’t like but it IS super catchy and BoB’s part is pretty cool (like always).
Favorite Part:
Of course the best part is B.o.B’s part 0:30-1:10.

“I do not tap out, round two, round three,
cause I’m never going down like Muhammad Ali,
call me Cashis, when we hit the mattress
you be like oh yup (yup), baby call me randy savage (ooh ya)
you say you want me but be careful what you askin
causeI beat it up like delta does your baggage”
I like how the beat drops out here at 0:58.
