DOWNLOAD MP3 IggyAzalea-Work.mp3 Summary: Something to get you over the hump this Wednesday. About Artist: Iggy Azalea is a rapper from Australia. She first gained prominence when one of her promo songs Pu$$y went viral on youtube, which is a Iggy song that I also really like. While I do like a lot of the beats she raps on and she does have a lot of skills it sucks that basically she’s taken the route of marketing herself as a hypersexualized female body. I don’t know much about FKi but you can check out there youtube channel in the links at the bottom of this post. About Song: This song is the single off of Iggy Azalea’s upcoming april EP also called work. Her debut album The New Classic is due out some time this summer. Favorite Part: I dunno what part I like best. I like the track and I like her rap. There isn’t one single part that really sticks out at me but I guess I really like the way the song was put together in the chorus and the way it flows from verse to chorus and back.
Summary: As per wikipeida “International Women’s Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements. ”
Below I’ve collected several youtube videos from Hip-Hop feMCs from around the globe. My knowledge or international hip-hop is sorely lacking so any suggestions of other foreign hip-hop females is more than welcome.
Hopefully the videos below show just how diverse and global the hip hop movement is and how Women in hip hop have such a important role than the sex objects they are allowed to play in mainstream American hip hop.
Happy International Women’s Day. #FuckThePatriarchy
DOWNLOAD MP3 MIA-BadGirlsMNARSRemixftAzealiaBanksMissyElliott.mp3 Summary: Wombyn Represent! Today is International Women’s Day, so I thought it’d be a nice time to reflect on how women are so under-represented in hip-hop, but also how Fcking Baddass some of those FEMCs are. Shout out to women across the world! About Artist: M.I.A is a British artist with ties to Sri Lanka. Her music is all over the place with a cacophony of different sounds. Basically she’s a badass and I love her. Azealia Banks is a somewhat underground young up and coming rapper/singer. Sadly there is almost no room for female hip-hop artist at the top but I hope she can rise through the ranks cause I think she’s super cool too. Missy Elliot is Hip Hop’s B-Girl Queen. While seemingly past her prime at this point (you know how women’s careers get shut down early) Missy Elliot still kills it. Dancing, singing, rapping, Missy Elliot does it all is one of the most positive female role models in all of hip hop (in my opinion). About Song: This song was originally released last year and sparked a number of official remixes including this one. The video for the original song was frickin awesome and I can’t say how many people wanted to show it to me when it first came out. You can really get MIA’s vibe from the video. Favorite Part: This remix is HOT! M.I.A. does her thing, Missy Elliot puts her style and attitude on the track, and then Azealia Banks comes in and just straight Kills It!
DOWNLOAD MP3 BigBoi-MamaToldMeftKellyRowland.mp3 Summary: This is one of more Pop sounding tracks off of Big Boi’s December 2012 album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. About Artist: Big Boi, half of the hip hop duo Outkast, is a huge force in southern hip hop in his own right. Kelly Rowland of course also has a pre solo career as a founding member of Destiny’s Child. About Song: This is off of Big Boi’s second solo album “Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors” a great album that will definitely have more songs featured on this blog. Favorite Part: This song is pretty pop but I like the light and fun vibe. Big Boi does his thin on it and Kelly Rowland fits perfectly on the hook. I think favorite part Is the chorus.
DOWNLOAD MP3 GiftOfGab-Protocol.mp3 Summary: This is a fun upbeat creative flow summer song. About Artist: Gift of Gab is half of Blackalicious who always comes out with positive quality fun stuff. If you like this song you should check out Blackalicious and other posts by both Gab and Blackalicious on this blog. Favorite Part: I really like the hook but of course Gift of Gab’s flow is awesome throughout.
DOWNLOAD MP3 Tyga-RemindedftAdele.mp3 Summary: Something Soft About Artist: Tyga runs with lil Wayne’s Young Money but he’s not really the reason this song is up here. I will say that Tyga is one of the more talented members of Young Money but this song is really made by the involvement of Adele. Now I actually don’t know hardley antying about Adele except that outside of Hip Hop she is huge. She’s won at least one grammy and the white mainstream really love her. About Song: This song is a single off of Tyga’s upcoming mixtape Black Thought 2, which is due out April 12th. Favorite Part:
Adele on the hook, I love her voice, but I really like melody and rhythm of it. I especially like how her voice kinda slides in the line I hate to turn out up out of the blue uninvited Other: Tyga Wikipedia Adele Wikipedia
DOWNLOAD MP3 RockyRivera-LaMadrinaBalladOfGriseldaBlanco.mp3 Summary: Power to Women. About Artist: I found a short bio of Rocky on facebook which I think lets you know what she’s about pretty well.
Rocky Rivera is a Hip-Hop journalist by day, MC by night, who found international acclaim by winning a Contributing Editor position on MTV’s docu-series “I’m From Rolling Stone” in 2007. After lacking inspiration in the literary world, she decided to finally pursue Hip-Hop as a participant, not only as an observer, and began to fill the void with thought-provoking music that you can dance to. (Think Lauryn Hill meets Public Enemy with West Coast beats) A dynamic perfomer who’s shared the stage with artists such as Zion-I, Blue Scholars, and Pacific Division, her all-lady crew consisting of DJ Roza and emcee Irie Eyez display a daringly different side of Hip Hop you have to experience to believe. Noted music critic Jeff Chang, author of Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: A History of the Hip Hop Generation writes “My whole career has been about getting people to hear the stories that need to be heard, and I think her story really needs to be heard
I gotta say, I love what she’s about and can’t wait for her upcoming Pop Killer Mixtape! About Song: This song takes the beach side sound of steel drums and puts a dark twist on it to talk about the real life Miami drug lord Griselda Blanco. Favorite Part:
First, I love the steel drums, I love Rocky, I think is song is just a peak of more to come! Other: Rocky Rivera Facebook Rocky Rivera Official Site
