JCole-ForbiddenFruitftKendrickLamar Audio Player DOWNLOAD MP3 JCole-ForbiddenFruitftKendrickLamar.mp3 Summary: #Summer2013 is a recap of the songs that made the summer of 2013 one of the best ever. Born Sinner was one of great albums this summer with Power Trip, Trouble, and Crooked Smile, Niggaz Know being some of the great songs on the albums. About Artist:J. Cole was a freshman in the rap game not that many years ago but with his diehard following he continues to climb to new heights. J. Cole is known for his storytelling style and quality albums. Kendrick Lamar, new king of the west coast, stayed hot this summer with songs like How Many Drinks, Robin Thicke’s Give it 2 U, Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe (with the Jay-Z feature) and his diss track Control (ft. Big Sean and Jay Electronica). About Song: Crooked Smile (ft. TLC) should probably hold this spot since it was a Born Sinner track that got considerable airplay but I just like this song was better. Forbidden Fruit is the third single off of Born Sinner but we’ll see how successful it is.
The intro with Kendrick singing “oh no” at 0:09.
DOWNLOAD MP3 Miguel-HowManyDrinksRemixftKendrickLamar.mp3 Summary: Sometimes I just want to be romantic. (Note: getting a woman drunk at the bar so you can take her home isn’t actually romantic) About Artist: Miguel is an R&B singer from LA. While he’s been around since 2007 he’s only recently gained noteriety. He’s done a couple track wile Wale and J. Cole that I also really like. Kendrick Lamar is a staple on this blog so you probably already know all about the Compton native. About Song: This song is the third single off of Miguel’s second and highly acclaimed album Kaleidoscope Dream.
Favorite Part: Miguel’s voice just makes me melt. He even makes getting girls drunk at the bar sound romantic. Kendrick’s verse is just icing on the cake.
I like in chorus when Miguel sings “back of mind I’m hoping you say 2 or 3”
DOWNLOAD MP3 50Cent-WeUpftKendrickLamar.mp3 Summary: Escape to 50 Cent’s world of wealth. About Artist: 50 Cent is the super famous ‘In Da Club’ Queens NY rapper turned business mogul. Kendrick Lamar is the new face of west coast hip hop and of ‘true/real/authentic hip hop’ (whatever that means). About Song: This song is the third single off of 50 Cents 5th album due out mid 2013 titled ‘Street King Immortal’. It originally featured G-Unit rapper Kidd Kidd but he was cut from the final version. Favorite Part: Both 50 Cent’s verse and Kednrick’s are pretty good. I like how Kendrick brags about his clean rap sheet. I mostly like the song because the rap and music just fit with each other, and I’ll admit to being a sucker for Kendrick Lamar.
DOWNLOAD MP3 ZZWard-CryinWolfftKendrickLamar.mp3 Summary: If you liked BlakRoc you’ll love this bluesy song. About Artist: This is the first song of ZZ Ward that I’ve discovered but I’m downloading some of her mixtapes and past projects as we speak. Apparntly she did a cover of a Childish Gambino song and has worked with Pete Rock in the studio? I don’t know enough at the moment but I would say looking into more of her stuff is a must! Kendrick Lamar is like my favorite rapper right now. From LA etc etc just look at past posts of mine by Kendrick Lamar. About Song: Is off her debut album which dropped yesterday called Till The Casket Drops (too soon after the Clipse’s album IMO). I’m about to listen to the album now but she seems very ‘Adele’ or ‘Lana Del Rey’ to me so far. Favorite Part: I really really like the bluesyness, which is also why I LOVED BlakRoc. I like when it breaks down with the claps, I love ZZ Wards voice and harmonies, and of course Kendrick’s verse specifically this part
“Don’t forget about us, don’t forget about trust Don’t forget about the kinkiness of playin with the cuffs on the bedspring penetrate the loud screams echoin the hallways is a must”(2:30-2:40)
DOWNLOAD MP3 KendrickLamar-BackseatFreestyleprodbyHitBoy.mp3 Summary: Another instant classic brought to you by Kendrick Lamar. Look out for “Good Kid, Mad City” dropping Monday October 22nd (AND HE’S GONNA BE ON TUCSON THAT DAY!) About Artist: The new prince of the west coast, Kendrick Lamar is carrying the torch for LA with all the style, grit, lyricism and originality that LA has been known for. While is legacy is still in the making Kendrick has all the makings of a king. His authenticity and pure talent vaults him into discussions of ‘best rapper alive’ and he shines as a beacon that Hip Hop is still alive! About Song: This song is a track that was just recently released here on soundcloud. It is one of the tracks off of Kendrick’s first commerical album Good Kid, m.A.A.d City. The first single off of the album Recipe I really really like but it never blew up on the radio (my guess because it had the word Weed in the chorus). Following that single was Swimming Pools (Drank) which I do hear on the radio a lot. Anyway, back to this song, it ir produced by Hit-Boy which, coincidentadnly, produced another jam that I was totoally into and posted on here a couple days ago Higher. Favorite Part:
Well first off the track is dope! The f-ing bell-chime things and the arrindindin arrindindin get me hyped!
Lay on Kendricks flow over that and it just goes hard!
Kendrick doesn’t go off lyrically like he somtimes does but check out the Rap Genius link below because there are some crazy references.
DOWNLOAD MP3 KendrickLamar-FuckYourEthnicity.mp3 Summary: Kendrick Lamar is the best up and coming rapper. Bring the West Coast back with a vengance. About Artist: Kendrick Lamar is a young Compton rapper who has been hailed as the next king of the west. He has amazing lyrical ability and speaks truth with an unmatched authenticity. Kendrick Lamar is currently my favorite rapper. I got to see him recently in his hometown of LA and was blown away. His live performance had so much energy and he was even better live than he sounds on his records. The show started a little late only because Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg showed up to watch. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Kurupt, Game, Big Sean and Snoop all graced the stage to come out and support Kendrick who has very quicky gained the respect of the entire hip hop community. About Song: This song is the intro to Kendrick Lamar’s recent and highly regarded project Section.80. Favorite Part:
“Fire burning inside my eyes
This the music that saved my life
Y’all be calling it hip-hop
I be calling it hypnotize
Trapped my body but freed my mind
What the fuck is you fighting for?
Ain’t nobody gonna win that war
My details be retail
Man, I got so much in store
Racism is still alive
Yellow tape and colored lines” (1:03-1:22)
“I mosh pit
Had a microphone and I tossed it
Had a brain, then I lost it
I’m out of my mind, so don’t
You mind how much the cost is
Penny for my thoughts
Everybody, please hold up your wallets” (1:45-1:53) Other: Kendrick Lamar Wikipedia Fuck Your Ethnicity Lyrics
DOWNLOAD MP3 KendrickLamar-HiiiPowerprodbyJCole.mp3 Summary: Hip Hop. About Artist: Kendrick Lamar is part of the new west coast movement. Decades after Snoop, NWA, Tupac came out of Compton Kendrick Lamar it trying to lead a second wave, a rebirth, of LA rap. J. Cole produced this track, which is a little strange since J. Cole is better known as a rapper. About Song: This song is atypical of Kendrick Lamar who normally goes off with fast high intensity rhymes (check out other Kendrick Lamar songs on gregshiphop here). In this song however Kendrick Lamar takes a more reflective approach. One thing that jumps out at me about this song is how it borrows from Kanye West / My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy this song is. Kendrick borrows from Kanye’s So Appalled line “shit is, fuckin ridiculous” at places like (1:36, 2:48, 4:23), it takes Kanye’s signature “huh” around 2:00, and takes a voice effect that Dark Twisted Fantasy popularized at 2:05. Favorite Part: No part really jumps 0ut at me but I like message Kendrick Lamar puts forward over this protest beat.
